Characteristics You will Always See with Leonard the Lion
- Dad’s football jersey (He played college football and was on intramural leagues post-college) and lifelong lucky number “42:” He may be wearing the number on a football jersey, like in The Case of the Giggles, or it will be somewhere else in the illustration. Keep an eye out for his number.
- The Chicago Bears colors, dark navy blue and orange: My father was a HUGE fan of the team. We frequented “Ditka’s Restaurant" here in Chicago, now closed this Spring 2020 due to coronavirus pandemic. Mom and I went there to celebrate his birthdays and anniversaries into heaven . . . well, the last three anyway.
- He is a very masculine character, just like dad. I remember my father asking a bartender to please remove an umbrella and a flower garnish from his drink once. "What's all this in my Manhattan? Take that out, please. Save that for the ladies" were his words as he tried to figure out how to even drink it. This inspired his “I’m not the kind of guy who giggles” line in The Case of the Giggles when asked by the Bobos Babes if he could help them solve the case.
- He is always complimenting Barbara the Butterfly, character inspired by my mother. He adored my mother. They met at the age of 15 and were married for 44 years.
